How do I create an account?
You can start using the app immediately with an anonymous account -
just set a username. To save your data across devices, view your
recommendation history, and access all features, sign in with Google
from the account tab.
What are credits and how do they work?
Credits power our AI-driven movie recommendations. Each new user
receives free credits on signup and every month. Credits are
consumed when generating personalized recommendations for you and
your group. You can check your credit balance in your account
settings.
How does the group movie selection work?
Create a room, share the room code/QR code/link with friends, and
start building your movie pool together. Add movies by searching,
getting AI recommendations (Curate), or importing from Letterboxd
(InstaPick). When ready, hit "Pick" to randomly select a movie from
the pool.
Can I import my watchlist from Letterboxd?
Yes! Link your Letterboxd username in account settings, then use
InstaPick in any room to quickly add movies from your watchlist. You
can filter by runtime and genre. "Shared InstaPick" finds movies that
appear on multiple members' watchlists.
The app isn't working properly. What should I do?
First, try restarting the app or checking for updates in the App
Store or Google Play. If issues persist, please email us at
[email protected] with details about the problem and your

Feature Documentation
Creating and Joining Rooms
- Create a room: Tap "Create Room" on the home screen to generate a 4-digit room code
- Invite friends: Share the QR code, room code, or link with your group
- Join a room: Enter a room code, scan a QR code, or tap a shared link
- Password protection: Room owners can lock rooms with a password
Setting Your Preferences
Tell the AI what you like by setting your movie preferences:
- Liked movies: Films you enjoy and want more of
- Disliked movies: Films you don't enjoy
- Vibe movies: Films with the mood or atmosphere you're looking for
- Toggle preferences as active/inactive to fine-tune recommendations
AI-Powered Recommendations (Curate)
Get personalized movie suggestions based on your preferences:
- Tap "Curate" and then "Find" to generate AI recommendations
- Swipe right: Add movie to your room's pool
- Swipe left: Skip the movie
- Tap the card: View detailed movie information
- The AI shows its reasoning for each recommendation
InstaPick (Letterboxd Import)
Quickly add movies from your Letterboxd watchlist:
- Link your Letterboxd username in your account settings
- Tap "InstaPick" in a room to import from your watchlist
- Filter by runtime, genre, and number of movies
- Shared InstaPick: Find movies that appear on multiple members' watchlists
Room Pool and Picking
Manage your group's movie options:
- Add movies via Search, Curate, or InstaPick
- View all movies in your room's pool
- Remove movies you don't want to consider
- Tap "Pick" to randomly select a movie from the pool
Managing Your Account
Access account features from the account tab:
- Choose your avatar
- Edit your username
- Link your Letterboxd username
- View your recommendation history (requires Google sign-in)
- Sign in with Google to save your data across devices
Privacy & Data
Pickamovie only collects data necessary to provide personalized movie recommendations and analytics. Your preferences and watch history are stored securely and never shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
